Hiking: Yailata – The Eternal Flame – Tyulenovo – Shabla Cape

On May 18, 2025, we’ll walk 13 kilometers along the rocky coast of Northern Black Sea – a route full of history, vastness, and views that stay long in your heart.

Route

Starting Location and Logistics
All participants must gather at the Shabla Lighthouse no later than 08:50 AM. From there, the organizers provide transportation by bus to the starting point of the route – the National Archaeological Reserve 'Yailata'. The hike begins at Yailata and continues north along the rocky Black Sea coastline.

Start: Yailata National Archaeological Reserve
Yailata is where history and nature exist in perfect harmony. Rock niches, ancient tombs, and remnants of fortress walls reveal traces of human activity across millennia. The sea view from the high limestone cliffs is incomparable.

Kamen Bryag – The Eternal Flame
Just past the village, at the edge of the cliffs, a small flame burns continuously. Locals simply call it 'The Flame.' It is believed to have been lit in the late 1980s and has been kept alive ever since – a symbol of memory, eternity, and the quiet human presence in nature. The place feels calm, open, and as if time slows down there.

Tyulenovo
Famous for its underwater caves, arches, and natural rock bridges – Tyulenovo is a haven for adventurers and romantics. Its name comes from the monk seals that once inhabited the area. The sea here is raw and powerful, and the rocks seem to whisper stories from another time.

Finish: Shabla Cape Lighthouse
Where the land ends and the sea begins – the easternmost point of Bulgaria. The lighthouse is the oldest on the Balkans (from 1856) and keeps the sea horizon safe with its steady light. There’s no better place to finish the hike.
